Education

Krishna Kripa Trust's Education Program aims to build an understanding on quality education, persistently contribute quality education to the community thereby enabling the youth to transform as responsible citizens. Acting as a catalyst for change, Krishna Kripa Trust is running Coaching Centres to supplement quality education to school children choosen from disadvantaged and marginalized background families in remote rural villages. These centres are providing education to students up to Tenth grade with special emphasis on English language. The course/curriculum at these centres is well-researched and developed pedagogy thought by an intensively trained and motivated local instructor's.



Specific objective of the programme are :

  • Ensuring quality education to students from primary up to tenth grade.
  • Encourage the students in availing the opportunities thereby becoming responsible citizens and become the future agents of change.
  • To elevate the understanding of quality education for the teachers thereby bridging the continuous demand in the community.

Need

  • Lack of Access to quality education for children coming from poor and marginalized communities in the region where Krishna Kripa Trust works.
  • Two third of students in the school found to be performing below average, leading to increasing dropouts particularly in female students.
  • Existing schools provided with government appointed teachers often found to practice regular absenteeism, lack of engagement of teachers with students, no pedagogical methods and lack of quality/adequate study material etc. All of which contribute to the existing low quality of education system in the community.

Our Intervention

Realising this particular needs of community we are intervening by providing coaching classes to students especially from poor, deprived sections and female students. Krishna Kripa Trust have introduced Incentives for achieving students thereby encouraging all. Krishna Kripa Trust also organises educational tours to places of interest where the students are exposed to various works of life. Krishna Kripa Trust organises Sports and Games to bring the Children and Parents in understanding the spirit of Competition, Participation and Team Spirit. Krishna Kripa Trust organises Cultural programmes encouraging the students to participate in various related activities thereby bringing awareness about our rich culture and values. The Cultural programs include competitions in Devotional Songs, drama, debates, essay writing, painting etc. Krishna Kripa Trust organises interaction with individuals who have achieved high social recognition. Krishna Kripa Trust regularly teaches Yoga and Meditation to students thereby helping them to practice good human values. Krishna Kripa Trust actively encourage further studies by passing-out students with proper counselling and guidance. Krishna Kripa Trusts experience in implementing education programme has resulted in a deep understanding in what it takes to make quality education available in the remote areas. Krishna Kripa Trust developed a value added model of education in collaboration with the community.


Current Status

Krishna Kripa Trust runs and supports 03 coaching centres covering 11 Villages. There are 524(356 Boys and 168 Girls) enrolled students taught by 20 teachers.


Impact

  • In 2011-12, 76% of the students attending the coaching Centre were done better performance in the school examination.
  • After studying at the Coaching centres many students admitted to higher education to further pursue their education.
  • Students studying in government schools who have previously studied in Coaching Centre have a higher attendance and retention rate than their peers who had not studied in coaching centre.
  • Along with the improvement of students education, there has also been a major improvement in attitude of students.

Future Challenges

  • Build own school premises including, library, meditation center, open art theatre, hostel facility etc. on the available Krishna Kripa Trust Land.
  • Introduce Teachers Training Program to improve their abilities and performance.
  • Source locally available teachers, provide adequate training and encourage them to enrol in the school.
  • Encourage participation of adolescent girls from neighbouring areas.
